Thinking of Quitting is for anyone wondering what else is out there when it comes to money, meaning and making it work. Whether you’re looking for your first job or are well into your career and ready for a change: This is for you.
In a series of video interviews, I ask real people about their unique jobs and the paths that got them there. I’ll talk to seasonal workers like bear guides, dog mushers, and deckhands, and people in alternative careers like cargo pilots, horse trainers, and wildlife biologists.
We’ll investigate questions like: What's it like to go from white collar career to work in the trades? Is a degree really worth it? And, should we turn our passions into our job, or find a way to make money and enjoy hobbies on the side? We’ll talk purpose, money, community, travel, and relationships. We’ll commiserate about how no one really knows what they’re doing, and how to get inspired to chase your dream—or find a new one.
The Show
Hi, I’m Roxanne! I'm 28 years old, and I've had a lot of jobs. I’ve worked as an ecologist, a science teacher, a sea turtle researcher, a farmer, on horse farms, as a wrangler, a naturalist and guide, a cashier, a waitress, a carpenter for music festivals, and a set dresser on music videos. I’ve worked in policy, think tanks, museums, and now journalism and media. I also have a bachelor's and a master’s, and somehow, I still don’t really know what I’m doing when it comes to a “career.”
And I don't think I'm alone. I started this project because I'm genuinely curious how people come to these seemingly fulfilling and exciting "dream jobs" I never even heard of growing up. The more stories I heard, the more I realized I might not be the only person out there who could use a little advice, inspiration, and occasionally a reality check.
